To improve your self esteem you need to accept the fact that low self esteem often goes with a lack of self confidence. To improve your self esteem you also need to develop confidence in yourself.

Step One: . Deliberately step outside of your comfort zone by making yourself noticeable. That might mean sitting at the front instead of hiding at the back, or joining a group of people at a party rather than sitting on the sidelines. For a person with low self esteem, it can be agonizing to think that they are suddenly in the limelight, but the it really does get easier the more you do it – and beating that irrational fear of being noticed is the foundation of building your self esteem.
2. Read ‘How to Win Friends and Influence People’ by Dale Carnegie. In this classic book you will learn very easy, and yet timeless strategies for making yourself incredibly popular with people around you – almost without effort!
3. Dress the part. People who exude self confidence generally dress for effect. That may mean saving up to buy a few items of really good clothing that you feel really sharp in. But don’t hide them away for Sunday best – that would have the opposite effect than you desire by subconsciously sending yourself a message that you need a special occasion to look good. Instead, wear your sharpest clothes every day. Shine up your shoes. Enjoy looking good and it will help you to enjoy your life on a higher, more confident level.
4. Lose weight and get fitter. A low carbohydrate diet coupled with a program of walking can work wonders for your physique. As you start to feel better about your body you might even step up and join a gym. Whatever you do, the overall effect of improving the relationship you have with your own body will have significant and lasting effects on your self confidence and self esteem.
5. Everybody is good at something. However low your self esteem may have fallen, there is something that you can do that other people will be impressed by. It may be that you are a great cake maker, or you know your way around using a computer. Perhaps you are good at spotting bargains or you know the secret to cleaning lime scale off your shower screen. It doesn’t matter what it is – find your points of excellence because you sure as anything have some. And when you do, share them with others. That act of knowing – and sharing – something that other people don’t know is a great way to make you feel good about yourself.
Increasing your self confidence and your self esteem are really worth making the effort to do. The benefits in your life can be enormous as you will face the world with a whole new attitude that will positively affect the way that others perceive you.
